How are you doing as a person?

How are you doing as a person? Taking time to sit with your emotions and health, and how they're impacting you, can feel like a luxury in the midst of today’s chaos. Across the country, there are record reports of mental and physical health challenges leading to burnout at increasingly higher rates. Over 75% of workers report experiencing burnout, and now Generation Z has surpassed millennials as the most burned-out generation. One notable difference: Gen Z is doing something about it. Did you know 40% of Gen Z reported taking time off from work to address their mental and physical health?

I learned the lesson about burnout when I landed my dream career at McDonald’s as a corporate speechwriter in my mid-20s. I was so passionate about climbing the corporate ladder that I pushed myself hard to get the position, and even harder once I had it. I said yes to EVERYTHING. Ultimately, the daily travel, endless feedback, and sleeplessness led to physical collapse. My ambition refused to quit, so my body forced the issue. One day, I found myself unable to see.
What I wish I’d had back in those early days of my career, before I had the demands of child rearing to consider, was an executive coach who could help me harness and deploy my ambition strategically and, most importantly, sustainably.
What I learned from that difficult and scary period – that ignoring your limits is not the same as resilience – is the cornerstone of my own executive coaching practice. And if my story can prevent someone else from learning it the hard way, then it’s worth telling.
If you want to learn more about my coaching practice or receive an invitation to the Getting Unstuck community, reply to this email. I’d love to hear from you!

This month, I shared that I lost my sight early in my career. I hope you’ll take a moment to read and share it with someone who needs the encouragement to prioritize their health.
Circle Highlights
Every month, I invite readers, coaching clients, and my network to share coaching tips and give everyone a chance to connect, discuss goals, and support one another. Last month, we started a new feature to spotlight member businesses. Here are highlights to give you more ways to get unstuck and to invite you to join in, too.
“What a great way to start the circle this month! I'm already excited. A resource that is bringing me joy, adaptogens. Medicinal herbs that lower cortisol and build the body's resilience to stress. When used regularly, they help the body not feel the impact of stress as strongly. They're like plant armor for the nervous system. I'm feeling good!” - Jamara
