Escape the Rut: 4 Innovative Ways to Move Forward

Updated: Nov 22

October was full of milestones! If you don’t know my story- my first job after college was in corporate finance, and I experienced firsthand how being stuck professionally can impact every area of my life. At one point, my stress levels were so high that I was even lost my vision.

That crisis provoked me to reevaluate the life I was living. I knew I had to make a change, and thankfully that change has led me to chasing less and attracting more. But first I had to admit that I was stuck.

This month, I celebrated my 20-year reunion at Howard University’s 100th homecoming. October also marks eight years since I stepped full-time into entrepreneurship at Leverette Weekes, the business my parents founded more than 50 years ago. And I’m celebrating my 9 and 11-year anniversary of becoming a mom!

As I reflect on what I’ve learned on my journey thus far and the importance of getting creative about managing the obstacles life throws in your path. Here are four ways to get unstuck and start today.

  1. Get clear. The first step to getting unstuck is understanding how to move from where you are to where you want to go. I love using the framework in Getting Unstuck to see my goals more clearly and assess how best to direct my time and energy.

  1. Create a vision. Not all goals are created equal, you have to understand what will get you closer to a specific vision. Before others begin placing demands and objectives on your calendar for 2025, schedule time to create your vision at the top of the new year with the annual Vision Board Party.

  1. Design a plan.  Just like travel, you need a plan if you are going somewhere new.  The Getting Unstuck Planner is an undated space for you with space for monthly goals, undated monthly calendars, and my affirmations to document your progress.

  1. Hire a coach. To achieve different results, you need to take different actions. Chances are, if you’re feeling stuck, you’ve probably exhausted all of your personal knowledge and motivation. An executive coach can help you expand your perspective and hold you accountable to your vision. Getting Unstuck Academy offers one-on-one and small-group coaching to strengthen your efforts.

If you’re feeling stuck, check in with yourself and which step(s) you need to take to move forward. No judgment! There are still two months before 2025.

As we begin to close out 2024, I encourage you to prioritize your goals this month and participate in your own rescue.  Ask yourself, “what is possible if I take action today?
