The holiday season is upon us. For me, it’s a time to reconnect and reset.
I love catching up with family and friends, shopping Black woman-owned businesses for holiday gifts, and making sure to wrap up Doctor's appointments for the year. I make my vacation days special by focusing on the memories I’m creating. Understandably, my clients are often focusing on their families, too. So when people become less responsive to email, I use the time to realign my priorities and actions to manifest the abundance of life.
I visited Shawntera Hardy of Amethyst Consulting Group’s pre-election workshop and got holiday shopping ideas.
At the same time, the holidays can throw budgets, time, and money out of whack, creating unnecessary stress. So, I’d like to share a few budgeting tips that I use to keep from going overboard:
Schedule your “peopling” time. When invitations flood your inbox, be realistic about how many events you really want to attend. If a last-minute invite pops up, it’s okay to decline. Remember, you are the expert of you!
Set aside “me” time. Whether you’re an extrovert or an introvert, it’s still important to stick to your self-care routines during the holiday season. Avoid the temptation to overextend yourself.
Set spending limits. Between school parties for the kids, clothes for glamorous gatherings, and gift exchanges, it can be easy to go over budget. Set aside a specific amount of money for holiday fun and stick to it.
Keep the new year in mind. As the new year approaches, set your 2025 budget. Some things you’re eyeing during the holiday season may be better (and on sale) in the new year.
Know your capacity. Time and money are limited resources. Be realistic about how much you have of both during the holidays. If something costs your peace, it is too expensive. Know your capacity and choose the courage to say “no” or “not right now.”
I want to hear from you! What’s your holiday personality type: all in or eager for it to be over? And what’s one thing you’ll budget in time or money for this season? Hit reply and let me know.

Take Time To Ask Thoughtful Questions
As part of the Forbes Coaches Council, I take time each month to answer reader questions. If you are leading a team, check out this helpful resource on How to Overcome Perception Gaps Between Leaders and Teams.
Often, a gap in effective communication creates disconnects between executives’ rapidly evolving strategies and the organization’s understanding of the direction and everyone’s role. Instead of chalking the difference up to productivity, taking the time to ask thoughtful questions—such as, “What would help you to act in line with the organization’s values?”—and including employees in planning can increase engagement.Meredith Leigh Moore, Leverette Weekes
